Tomorrow, the town of Hanksville will gather to pay tribute to Kevin and Susie Hatch, who have been selected as the Grand Marshals of the Hanksville Parade. Their selection is a testament to their embodiment of the values and spirit that define our community.
Kevin has been an industrious worker in construction and many other jobs while always farming on the side. His 1977 GMC and red, white and blue UVEX sunglasses are classic "Kevin Hatch". Susie joined Kevin and he eventually talked her into moving to Hanksville while working many years in Ticaboo, she has also been a nurse. Susie and her son, Patrick, joined Kevin and they made a beautiful family. On March 31, 2005 while Patrick "Tico" Pentico was serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, he was killed in a night flying training mission in Albania along with 8 other airmen. Susie became a Gold Star Mother, the ultimate sacrifice for her country when she lost her son. Kevin went on to become the Hanksville Bus Driver where the kids remember the words "Sit Down" and "Hi Friend". Susie worked at the Hanksville Elementary School and then the BLM Field Office. They both are now retired. These 2 have been through much together and taught us what it looks like to sacrifice for another, to work hard but also how to enjoy what God has given them.
We are proud to honor them as the Grand Marshal's for our hometown parade that begins at 10:00AM, July 4th.
